Chevrolet will be debuting the new Chevrolet Camaro Coupe and convertible next month and the 65th Frankfurt motor show. Powered by the existing 6.2 litre V8 unit producing 426bhp with the choice of either a six speed manual or automatic gearbox the new Camaro represents the biggest redesign since the fifth generation model which was introduced as a concept car in 2006.
The latest incarnation of this famed American muscle car will accelerate from 0-62mph in 5.2 seconds in manual form with the convertible version just 0.2 seconds slower. Improved aerodynamics aid cooling and stability at high speeds along with a purposely designed bonnet vent helping to reduce heat and aerodynamic lifting. At the front of the car the lower grille is wider with a more narrow upper grille with the rear of the car featuring horizontal tail-lights a sculptured bonnet lid, rear diffuser and spoiler with a built in antenna.
Inside the Camaro boasts a new heads-up display system and Chevrolet’s MyLink, allowing users to open phone books, photo galleries and music playlists from compatible mobile smartphones. A rear view parking camera, leather Recaro sport bucket seats, voice recognition, text to speech (which allows you to listen to text messages from your smartphone) and remote keyless entry (on the automatic) are all also fitted as standard. Customers can also purchase an integrated Satellite navigation system as an option extra with coverage for all of Europe.
It is probably the Camaro’s rugged look and iconic status that make the car so popular with countless people over generations with it gaining fame on bedroom posters, on T-shirts, in music and in the Movies, one of the most popular examples being Transformers in 2007, 2009 and 2012 where a yellow Camaro starred as one of the main characters “Bumblebee”.
