What's My Car Worth?
Valuing your car can be surprisingly tricky, though it always comes down to the simple matter of
"How much will someone pay for it?"
All of our dealers are professional car buyers, with access to the very latest valuation data provided by the likes of Glass's Guide and CAP. This means your car has a guide or "book" price; however that really is just a rough guide - and even the guides disagree with each other!
The biggest complaint from dealers is that by the time valuation guides are published, the data is already out of date.
Areas that even up-to-date guides do not really cover include:
* Popular color - or lime green?
* Higher or lower than expected mileage for the year
* Interior condition
* Quality accessories, such as sparkling alloys or top-end audio
* If the brand or model is currently fashionable
* Presence of service history documents
* How much work is required to put it in selling condition
Something as simple as having a good spare tyre and all the original tools in the boot can make a car easier to sell. Even old MOT sheets can help, while 'go-faster' stripes or an expensive spoiler can actually reduce the value.
Naturally, the time of year is also a huge factor for convertibles!
Location, Location, Location...
Location is of course a major part of the value of a house - did you know it also affects cars too?
Each dealer knows their own market and typical customer. If most of their customers tend to be young, they will shy away from a car demanding high insurance costs, whereas a rural dealer may be specifically looking for an extra- powerful 4x4.
The real key factor however is the "dealer's eye", resulting from years of experience in the trade, especially at their own location. They just come to know which vehicles will sell quickly - and which could be hanging around their forecourt for months on end!
All this means that the offers you receive from our network of buyers may be considerably more, or considerably less, than any guide price.
