Kia have released some images of their new Kia Niro concept car which is set to be unveiled at this years 65th Frankfurt Motor Show, hinting at a possible B-segment urban styled mini SUV contender to take on the likes of the Nissan Juke, Renault Captur, and the Vauxhall Mokka.
Designed at Kia’s design studio based in Frankfurt the computer generated images show the Niro has what looks to be a single piece stainless steel roof, butterfly doors, the familiar “tiger nose” grille,?wide-set headlights, fluorescent yellow inserts and accents on the tyres, alloy wheels and the bumpers along with cube shaped LED running lights from the Cee?d GT.
The butterfly or “Gull-wing” doors give the Niro a modern, rugged sporty appearance with the interior boasting a minimalistic look from the use of one piece moulding for the centre console and seats.
Kia have said the Niro will make use of an “innovative new power-train” but they haven’t as yet released any technical information. Could it be we will see something from the development of the “Provo” concept’s hybrid system? This hybrid drive-train had a 1.6 litre turbo-charged engine driving the front wheels with an electric motor powering the rear, developing a total of 246bhp with on-demand four-wheel drive.
The Niro is still a concept at the moment but sources have revealed that a production version could possibly go on sale by 2015.
