Maserati has marked a turning point in their history with the release of a brand new 3.0L V6 TDi bi-turbo diesel engine that is going to be available in their new Maserati Ghibli.
The Ghibli will be Maserati’s first saloon car in the Premium E market segment designed to be both luxurious and sporty and along with the new 272bhp diesel engine a choice of two new twin-turbo V6 petrol engines producing 325bhp and 404bhp respectively.
The car which was revealed at the Shanghai motor show in April will also be the first time in history Maserati has had two four door saloon models in their range with the Ghibli being 29cm? smaller, 50kg lighter, more economical and less expensive than its bigger flagship brother the Quattroporte of which it shares the chassis and suspension.
The Ghibli, Ghibli S, Ghibli S Q4 and Ghibli Diesel will all feature an 8-speed paddle-shift ZF gearbox which is as silkily responsive as ever with the S Q4 also running on a 4×4 drive-train but unfortunately wont be available to the UK market.
The interior is lovely and arguably better than the Quattroporte with an 8.4″ Maserati Touch screen control system, handsome luxurious Poltrona Frau leather, a 1280w 15 speaker Bowers & Wilkins Hi-Fi system, Wi-fi router, dual zone climate control and the famous Maserati clock in the middle of the fascia.
