The new Porsche Panamera Turbo S has seen the boffins at Porsche getting clever with their turbo’s and increasing the bhp of their V8 by 50bhp to 542bhp. The increase in power has been achieved by changing the little spinny things inside the turbo (called impellers) to a lighter aluminium/titanium combination. This equates to a weight reduction of 50%, meaning they can now spin from 0 – 170,000 rpm in just 0.8 seconds instead of the previous 1.2 seconds. Other changes include higher injection pressure and new pistons and rings.
This increase in power is put to the wheels via an all-wheel drive system with a twin-clutch, seven-speed PDK transmission, and lots of abbreviated electronic gadgets – (PDCC, PTV, PTM, PSM and PASM – all of which are standard) taking the Panamera Turbo S from 0-62 mph in just 3.8 seconds and go on to a top speed of 192mph. – Perfect for four people doing a bank job!
The Porsche Chrono pack is also standard meaning the drive-train and chassis has been carefully configured to produce the best throttle and handling responses.
Cosmetically the Turbo S hasn’t really changed from its siblings. It has however acquired new 20-inch Turbo II alloy wheels which as well as being larger than the standard wheels are also somewhat wider. The car also comes in a new metallic paint colour called “Palladium” which is only available on this particular model.
Oh and you know I mentioned “Bank Job”? Well you are probably going to need to do one as the new Panamera Turbo S costs and extra ?20k or thereabouts over the standard turbo model.
